Title: Home Shower Re-tiling Project
Description:

Student groups of three will be planning and designing a shower remodel.  Students will be given dimensions of the shower walls to be tiled, a list of materials and a budget.  Using resources provided by the teacher and found on the internet, students will select a tile design and material to complete the shower project for under $3,000.  The walls to be tiled will surround a standard sized bath tub.  There will be three walls to be tiled, two of which will be 2 ½ feet by 5 feet and one which will be 5 feet by 5 feet.

Driving Question/Scenario: How does a homeowner or someone employed in the home remodel industry, use and apply math in a real world problem?  As a homeowner, a person will  have to make decisions about the maintenance and upkeep of their home.  They will have to make decisions on repairs or remodels, that take into account personal tastes and budget limitations. If they were employed in the home remodeling business, this type of activity would be a regular part of their job.

Title: Embrace the World
Description:

This project is about American high school students understanding issues of cross-cultural communication and assimilation that affect international exchange students. The goal of the project is
to develop school cultures that are welcoming and understanding of exchange
students and capable of supporting them. American students
will participate in interviews, discussions and a simulation. They will then facilitate the sharing of this information with their peers in other classes and formulate action plans to support exchange students. As a culminating activity students will help plan a celebratory "international student week".

Title: Down to the Wire - The Basics of Electrical Circuit Design
Description:

The Basic Electricity course is a 2-week, 80-hour course that teaches the fundamentals of electrical theory and troubleshooting.  Upon completion of the first week's exam and prior the introduction to troubleshooting, students will design simple electrical circuits based on specifications provided. This will be the apprentice's first taste of "hand's on" work in the electrical lab.  After verifying that their circuits function properly, they will attempt to determine the specification requirements provided to each other student based on the functionality of the circuits.  This will be a group function.

Title: How Can 2D Shape Transformations Be Used In Real Life?
Description:

Students will be researching transformations of 2D shapes on the coordinate plane and creating a video to share with the class. They will write a song or catchy saying to put in their video to help others remember. They will research occupations and types of projects transformations can be used for. They will create some examples. They will be required to show a translation, reflection, a rotation, and one combination transformation. They will also prove the properties of transformations (the length of a line segment doesn’t change even though the shape is moved).  They will prove two figures are congruent. They will describe the sequence of transformations from a shape to its image. The video should explain and entertain.
